WWAT Tutorial When you first enter the homepage of the WWAT system you are presented with three options for locating your water withdrawal site: Locate by Address, Locate by Navigation, and Locate by Latitude/Longitude. For this example we will choose the Locate by Address option. If you would like to know more about each of the three options please click here. Step One: Type in your address and zip code into the appropriate text box then click the "Find Address" button. The web page will then refresh and load up a hyperlink for your address. Step Two: Click on the hyperlink for your address. The WWAT Map Interface will then load up with its viewpoint centered over the chosen address. The location of your address is displayed on the map by a red dot. The address itself is displayed right beside it. Step Three: Explore the following features of the WWAT Map Interface. The three main features that make up the WWAT Map Interface are: GIS Tools, the Data Layers, and the Display map. The GIS Tools are located in the top left corner of the WWAT Map Interface. These tools allow the user to manipulate and identify key features on the map.
The Data Layers Box is located in the bottom left side of the WWAT Map Interface. This box contains all of the data layers that can be displayed on the map. To learn more about the data layers and how they function, please visit the Utilizing the Data Layers Page. The Display Map makes up the remaining area of the WWAT Map Interface. Whatever changes you make within the GIS Toolbox or to the Data Layers will be depicted by the Display Map. The area just underneath the Display Map is also used to portray information. When you use certain GIS Tools or activate a specific data layer, information related to those actions will be presented in this area. For example, when you click on the Address Tool, the area below the Display Map will load up an address query. You can then enter in the address you are looking for and click the "Locate" button.
Progress Check: After thoroughly exploring the three key features of the WWAT Map Interface, it's now time to utilize the main tool of the WWAT system; the Withdrawal Tool. The Withdrawal Tool is designed to estimate the likely impact of a proposed water withdrawal on nearby streams. This tool allows the user to run a water withdrawal scenario at their chosen location. At this point, you should have the WWAT Map Interface loaded up and the Display Map centered over your chosen address like in the example seen here.
Step Four: Zoom in on your chosen withdrawal location so that the Existing Well Data Layer becomes visible. To do this, click on the Zoom In tool and then click on the location of your withdrawal site. The webpage should then look similar to this example.
Step Five: A new window will open up and load the Withdrawal Input Page. The Withdrawal Input Page will then require you to fill out specific information about your withdrawal. Please take a few minutes and visit the New Withdrawal Tool Page to learn more about the Withdrawal Input Page. Step Six: Fill in the required information and click on the "Send To Model" button located at the bottom of the Withdrawal Input Page. The Water Withdrawal Screening Process Results page will load up with the results for your water withdrawal location. There are three key elements to the withdrawal results page: The Adverse Resource Impact Graph, the Screening Results Summary, and Actions. Please take a few minutes to visit the Water Withdrawal Screening Process Results Page. to learn more about these elements. Step Seven: Print off your water withdrawal results. To do this, click on the print button which is located in the Actions box on the right center side of the page. A printer friendly version of your withdrawal results will load up and allow you to print off a copy. Step Eight (Optional): If you aren't satisfied with your results and would like to run the tool again with different specifications click the Rerun button which is located in the Actions box. This will bring you back to the Withdrawal Input Page which is essentially Step Six. If you are finished with the New Withdrawal tool, you may close out the webpage or click on the Exit button located in the Actions box. |
